As a Change Fellow at Coburn Ventures I’ve been closely collaborating with the company for more than a decade. I’m helping the team in the design and hosting of their retreats and gatherings for clients. But more importantly, over the years in our collaboration we have studied change and culture inside organisations extensively together. By continuously applying the lessons we’ve learned on this in sessions about change, becoming better investors and culture we’ve grown together on a path that is continuing until today and has resulted in me being part of the core team. One of the more public results of our collaboration is the Community For Change of which I'm a charter member and a regular contributor to their Writing Circle.

For the Digital Storytelling Lab together with Lance Weiler and Nick Fortugno I co-designed Sherlock Holmes and the Internet of Things and developed the collaborative methodology behind it. Sherlock Holmes and the Internet of Things was a Massive Online Offline Collaboration project that involved more than 2000 participants from more than 60 countries in 70+ events. Currently we’re developing a new Massive Online Offline Course for the lab called Frankenstein AI which is inspired by Mary Shelley's classic novel. Previously we worked on Pandemic 1.0 back in 2009.

At SingularityU I help the team with the development of all custom programs and learning programs that they host for clients in the Netherlands. To build a stronger foundation for this capability within the organization I'm also leading the team of facilitators that are enabling these collaborative sessions on the impact of an exponentially changing world.

After building up and shaping FreedomLab for the last decade I have recently left the company I’ve co-founded to explore what to do next in my own future. In the last 15 years I’ve helped numerous organizations to get breakthroughs in their thinking and in their perspective on the world. As a host and enabler of strategic and creative conversations I’ve helped groups of people to take an outside-in perspective. I have collaborated with many internationally operating organizations in the fields of media and consumer brands, finance and investment, insurance and pensions, education and charity and have hosted sessions for groups ranging in size from 3 people to 300 people and from boardroom to classroom. But now the time has come to take a few steps back ask myself what I want my future to be.

At Columbia University I have been one of the designers of various courses in digital storytelling in close collaboration with Lance Weiler. For the School of Journalism I designed the collaborative approach for an exploration in the pairing of story and technology called Bit By Bit and crafted a curriculum for the School of Professional Studies on co-creation and futures thinking. We also crafted a lab around narrative storytelling in collaboration with the Columbia University Medical Center.

Many years ago Lance Weiler (co-founder of Reboot Stories) and I started designing and creating collaborative projects and social innovation labs together. Over the years we have ran many labs and sessions together ranging in size from just a handful of participants to big story creating events that had thousands of collaborators. The work that we have done together has always been based on our drive to make the world work for 100% of humanity (inspired by Buckminster Fuller). Besides Reboot Stories projects we have developed a toolkit for social change for the Learn Do Share collective, that is now using these methods for collaboration all over the world.

As one of the co-founders of FreedomLab I had been building the company for more than a decade. FreedomLab has seen many iterations before I left it in 2017. I was responsible for all the collaborative sessions on vision and strategy development. Over the course of 10 years I've developed new tools for futures thinking (ie Wheel of Reasoning) and have designed a methodology for collaboration that we have used in many corporate organizations and NGO's on boardroom level and inside classrooms. All the tools and methodologies that were created were developed as creative commons and have therefore been applied and adopted in many different locations and have been part of various experiments worldwide. As part of my role at FreedomLab I've talked to hundreds of experts, scientists, scholars and thought leaders on topics of technology, sustainability, change, media, scenario thinking and disruption.

As a side step during my time at FreedomLab, I worked for a little over a year on further developing the collaborative methodologies we applied and expanded the tooling for future scenario building. I ran many different experiments and took the lessons learned from it to redesign some of the approach of our collaborative strategy sessions and vision work.
