About José Alejandro Martinez
Teaching: Solid modeling in CAD combined with material science allows me to share my understanding in manufacturing practices. Theoretical material science can be easily applied to simple mechanical systems to allow students to become great at prototyping, hence great inventors. I believe in pushing my students to understand basic principles which can be applied to manufacturing in virtually any area of interest.Research:My research focuses on computational molecular dynamics of phase transformations in steels. Phase transformations are modeled through the implementation of a mathematical model which describes the deformation gradients and boundary mechanics in between two phases. Here we can study the micro-mechanics of atom-to-atom interaction. Areas of interest within this research are: Elastic behavior, crystal plasticity, magnetization effects, alloying, dislocation networks, and relation to experimental results.
