🏰 Hi, I’m Joe. I am an assistant at Apollo Art Auctions, a company specialising in the sale of medieval and ancient art and objects. Though our items come from all over the world, we (and I) are/am based in central London.🎓 In August 2022 I completed my MA in Medieval Studies, undertaking ground-breaking study in fields such as object analysis, fantasy writing, animal history, and ecclesiastical history. Most of my work focused on the European sphere but ranged widely in date from pre-first millennium through to the early Tudor period.📚 Prior to starting my Master’s degree, I completed my undergraduate in History. My final year cemented my strong interest in Welsh history, but over my three years at Birmingham my studies extended through dozens of historical periods across a huge breadth of the world. My dissertation won the RHC Davis Prize for Medieval History and I received amongst the highest marks in my 200+ person year group.

This has allowed me to develop my customer service skills in a heritage environment.• Good communication within the security team and between our team and the rest of the museum staff is absolutely essential. • Regular patrols are required to be conducted throughout the shift. During the day this leads to interacting with members of the public, whereupon I become a visible representative of the Wallace Collection and am required to behave appropriately.

Volunteer ResearcherLlanelli Community Heritage Oct 2022 - Sep 2023Llanelli, Wales, United Kingdom• Currently leading a team of volunteers investigating the town of Llanelli’s medieval religious institutions, with the aim of publishing a paper upon completion. This project relies heavily on my primary source analysis skills but also my ability to support and work with my volunteering team. • Had the opportunity to host and participate in lectures and seminars with members of the public. The most recent was well attended and resulted in some extremely encouraging feedback.• Have worked with objects such as rare books and antique maps that are incredibly fragile, and thus have knowledge of the correct approach for handling important historical objects.
