Volunteer Product Manager And Developer
CurrentThe Chicago Tool library is a non-profit lending library that houses thousands of items that range from basic hand tools and table saws to ice cream makers and camping equipment.Along with a small group of other volunteers, I am helping with product prioritization, strategy, and execution hoping to help Chicago reshape its relationship to ownership, consumption, and creativity.
Senior Product Manager
I managed the Chowly Online Ordering product. I was brought in to build a new product team and improve engineering velocity. I created clarity on product vision, alignment with executive stakeholders, and established a cadence for absorbing customer feedback. With my first 30 days, I reviewed all support cases and categorized issues into three main focus areas for stabilizing our product. I launched agile ceremonies that created better channels of communication and collaboration - tripling our release velocity. I launched the concept of "quick wins" and "big bets" - stretching our experimentation muscles and creating a backlog of solutions that would both compliment our business model and increase our product's value proposition to current and prospective customers.I created data dashboards to visualize the key performance indicators for our product - the delta in more locations generated orders via our online ordering product. In my first three months, we doubled our locations with orders volume by prioritizing bugs that were aligned with our KPIs and quick wins that incrementally improved our product.I presented our performance via company-wide presentations and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to align all teams towards our north star OKRs.While the impact was great in my short time, the business needed to shift their financial operation and I was part of a 25% reduction in company employees.
Technical Product Manager
I created a process for solving some pressing issues for customers including the introduction of flexible account activity resolving how credit balances are displayed for customers. I met with customers to gather clarity on their complex policy challenge and created value for customers by simplifying the message and communicating the right value proposition.I reduced the delivery time for a multi month project by understanding the problem and deciding what to include or not include in scope. We delivered this project within 2.5 weeks. I also simplified the communication for this solution to customers so our marketing team and sales team knew how to sell it.I led the product direction for on-boarding a new customer with complex requirements. The initial scope was five months to onboard these customers. I used Miro to whiteboard what an iterative approach could look like. After creating happy and unhappy testable paths, negotiating scope with the engineering, and customer, we reduced the delivery to two months.I introduced rigor and an effective product development process which improved communication, confidence and clarity in how we worked. This allowed our team to move quicker, shipping multiple projects and reduce ambiguity while building.I introduced a new way of exploring the jobs to be done and identifying the hypothesis for what we think customers need and want to do via Canopy. This was data driven and evidence based. Doing this helped remove the opinions of what we need to work on and drive the conversation forward in making decisions based on evidence rather than opinions.
Product Manager Iii
I led the API Banking team along with a team of engineers. I prioritized the digital payments initiatives, B2B payments - developing and scaling our ACH API, VCN (Virtual Credit Card) API, Account Transfer API, Stop Check Payment API, and Wires API (SWIFT). During my tenure, we increased the total volume of ACH payments through the ACH API from 9% to an average of 21% every month. I worked cross collaboratively with our downstream internal systems teams, sales, marketing, implementation, support engineering and product stakeholders. I also research client user experiences, identify jobs to be done, hypothesize solutions and test those solutions for clients via SQL and tableau dashboard monitoring along with gathering client feedback. I also led the Payment Facilitator (PayFac) API initiative so clients can leverage ACH API to move funds to their submerchants from their custodial (FBO) account at SVB. Previously, clients were only able to send NACHA files to SVB. Many of our clients are tech/API-first and were not comfortable w/ creating a file-based process. Additionally, using NACHA files does not give the client the same visibility into transaction status as the API does. This also led to signing several large clients to the bank.Outside of standard Product practices, I also mentor a Product Owner on the team - guiding our collective team towards a more holistic agile framework.
Product Manager
I led the Listing and Applications (L&A) workflow for the Avail (acquired by Realtor.com) rental suite - defining L&A product strategy. Our group was responsible for delivery an effective rental listing process as well as managing the applications effectively so that landlords can find great tenants for their units. This was a new engineering team that needed structure and a foundation to scale the product development lifecycle. I introduced new product routines including "Jobs to be Done" for creating business cases - prioritizing roadmap initiatives based on ROI and impact. I also implemented working agreements that instituted the definition of ready, definition of done and our product release cadence. This involved heavy documentation and communication with the engineering, sales, marketing, UX and Realtor.com senior product leadership team.
Associate Product Owner
As a Product Owner, I executed the Product Roadmap for the Tax Compliance team. This involved rebuilding a monolithic application - my team was responsible for managing the storage, integrity and communication of all tax related data for over 20,000 companies, with over 12,000 tax codes. Other responsibilities included:- leading the "three amigos" sessions between product, design and engineering- gathering key requirements from internal stakeholders via discovery sessions- translating key requirements into product requirement documents - prioritizing epics, stories and bugs that are engineering ready while managing the backlog of work for each of the engineering team members- demonstrating the sprint deliverables to internal stakeholders- working cross functional across 5 different teams to identify dependencies and coordinating release schedules

As a Product Data Analyst within Uptake's Customer Success team, I provided insight-based product and strategy solutions to internal and external customers. Responsibilities included:- leveraging technical and analytical skills to visualize and normalize data in preparation for ingestion into the Uptake platform via various data sources included SQL databases and API connections- applying application of domain knowledge and deep understanding of the data to support pre-sales, data assessments, and other internal Uptake teams in order to establish value added solutions to customer engagements - championing data analytic tech stack, leading to new product offering for the entire company known as AssetIO Prepare

Retail Sales Manager
In the final step of my AT&T career, I had the amazing opportunity to inspire and motivate a team of 9 union retail employees. This role was one of the toughest yet, and I welcomed the challenge. One of my favorite memories from this period was after acquiring one of the worst performing stores in Chicago, we rose to the top of the leaderboard. What really stood out during this period was when a 7 year AT&T veteran employee, who was previously disgruntled and unmotivated to perform to the top of the abilities that we both knew were possible, said this:"I don't want to leave this store. Jose is the first manager that actually cares and develops me."Here are a few statistics from what we accomplished during this period:• Coach and develop sales team to deliver results in margin initiatives as well as small business, resulting in 400 FitBits sold to a business customer, and over $35,000 in accessory revenue• Implement small business strategy including targeting local businesses, cold calling and following up with appointments that contributes to a 220% to goal attainment in CRU GA Mix• Develop student IRU business plan and built relationships with local university directors to increase traffic in retail location, resulting in 400% increase in IRU gross additional units• Conduct thorough analysis of customer experience detractors to identify and adapt strategy for improvement. Achieved 35% increase in customer service during first month implementation • Effectively coach and manage a team of 9 sales consultants responsible for delivering an extraordinary customer experience and following a six step retail sales process to over 500 customers per month• Manage monthly employee development plans, weekly employee observations, and facilitate downtown Chicago new employee hire transitions
Retail Leadership Development Program
While seeking a new challenge within my career, our VP of Sales for Illinois/Wisconsin asked me to apply to this Leadership Development Program. What a fantastic experience! I learned so much during this rigorous leadership sales program. Located at AT&T HQ, I learned from effective training and developed tested experiences to prepare me for a successful retail sales management position. Here were some takeaways from my time in class 38 of RLDP:• Recognized as the first internally selected high-potential leader from the Illinois Vice-President of AT&T Mobility to join the RLDP • Tested coaching, leadership and development skills during intensive 6-month training• Generated positive sales growth during six-week rotation in the Philadelphia market
Account Executive, National Retail
Built relationships with store management and wireless sales personnel of 16 National Retail chains including Apple, Best Buy, Costco, and Target to meet mutual sales objectives. Developed and implemented wireless and wireline sales marketing programs for each district. • Influenced retail management and associates to consistently achieve aggressive sales targets; delivered quality attention, follow-up, and quick resolutions resulting in higher customer satisfaction and increased sales for a total of over 65% AT&T mindshare• Merchandised retail locations to ensure regional planogram compliance • Facilitated coaching and feedback to the managers and associates to deliver outstanding customer experience and sales execution, resulting in best in class attainment including: o Bronze Summit Winner in First Quarter 2011 o Silver Summit Winner in Fourth Quarter 2011 o Top 5 out of 87 ranked National Retail Account Executives in 2012
Field Representative, National Retail
• Implemented a full cycle of sales from introduction, closing and follow up• Executed on building value and offering personalized solutions to customers, resulting in consistent sales attainment year over year• Maintained quality customer service which included five key customer service principles • Organized grand-openings and re-openings for several Big Box locations, as well as training for Best Buy, Walmart, Sam's Club and SCK associates for AT&T products and services.
