Throughout my academic and professional career, I have found many opportunities that allowed me to pursue my interests in the field of engineering; they have helped me to grow as an engineer in a professional scientific setting. Working as an Academic Intern at a lab at the University of New Mexico helped me learn the importance of being both an efficient and detail-oriented worker. Working as an Intern at the Santa Fe Institute taught me to be creative and to use knowledge from separate fields of study to solve problems from a new perspective. Working for BennuBio, Inc. has helped me understand the value of taking initiative to solve engineering problems when they arise, and develop the skill of approaching engineering problems with a multi-discipline perspective (i.e., mechanical, chemical, biological, etc.).In addition to these opportunities, I’ve found ways to bring my passion for engineering to other aspects of my life. I’ve been actively involved in organizing Model United Nations conferences, always encouraging students to consider science, engineering, technology, and math solutions when approaching global issues. Through my participation with the Peñasco Valley Historical Preservation Society, I hope to bring positive changes to my community through the preservation and teaching of ancestral knowledge, which I appreciate from a scientific perspective (farming and food processing techniques, knowledge of the medicinal properties of plants, historic architectural practices, etc.).My experiences have made me an innovative, collaborative, and hard-working engineer.
