Assigned to: DET 1, Cyber Protection Team 178 (Texas Army National Guard)Cyber Warfare warrant officers supervise and manage the execution of Cyberspace Offiensive and Defensive Operations; Cyberspace Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); Cyberspace Operational Preparation of the Environment (OPE); and Cyberspace Attack actions. They direct, plan, administer, manage, and integrate actions in support of offensive and defensive cyberspace operations. They lead personnel and sections and manage the training of personnel on the planning, administrating, managing, maintaining, integrating, and operating in specified operational environment. They develop policy recommendations and provide technical guidance and advice to commanders and staffs on the management and operation of Army, Joint, intergovernmental, interagency, and multinational implications and applications of offensive and defensive cyberspace operations. They provide technical expertise to integrate cyberspace operations with war fighting functions. The Cyber Warfare Technician must understand relationships, teamwork, and interpersonal dynamics and have the ability to integrate these concepts to achieve cyber effects.

Enlisted service: June 2005 - April 2015Commissioned in April 2015Information Services Technician supervise and manage information system assets associated with Automated Information Systems (AIS) and Internet Protocol (IP) Local Area Networks (LAN). They plan, develop, implement, and test a myriad of state-of-the-art, real time voice and data tactical information systems. They lead personnel and sections and manage the training of personnel on the installation, administration, management, maintenance, operation, integration, securing and troubleshooting of tactical AIS, intranets, and video teleconferencing (VTC) systems. They perform system integration and administration, develop policy recommendations, and create and implement Cyber Security/Information Assurance (CS/IA) programs to protect and defend information, computers, and networks from disruption, denial of service, degradation, or destruction. They develop policy recommendations and advise commanders and staffs on planning, installing, administering, managing, maintaining, operating, integrating and securing information systems on Army, Joint, Combined, and Coalition networks.

The Systems Security Engineer (SSE) is responsible for conducting Systems Security Engineering activities throughout the acquisition lifecycle ensuring the highest quality of Cybersecurity/Information Assurance (IA) solutions for SNC and supported customers. The SSE’s primary focus is ensuring theconfidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems. The SSE closely collaborates with the system owners, administrators, engineers, and program managers to ensure cybersecurity controls are effectively implemented throughout the system lifecycle.Additionally appointed as the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) responsible for the day-to-day security operations of a system. ISSO is responsible for maintaining information security policies, procedures and settings within the network environment. The ISSO serves as a technical advisor on information systems under his/her purview.

Responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools at JBSA – FSH including the Southwest Region. Responsibility also include providing, but not limited to Command, Control, Communications and Computer Information Management (C4IM) customer services support to regional and installation users for ensuring IT functions and requirements are met and provided to satisfactory levels. Also responsible for organizing, coordinating, scheduling changes, and identifying new requirements to meet day-to-day and future mission Information Assurance requirements for the installation networks/communications modernization and long term life cycle.

Receives and reviews written guidance from a variety of Department of Defense (DoD), federal and state investigative and enforcement agencies and interpret for impact within the state. Enforce established policy and guidance for all Information Assurance Systems Officers throughout the state. Enforce the state information assurance and accreditation policy.Assures compliance with security policy for external connections to the state networks and assures compliance with the national and state policies. Work with the System Security Managers to develop procedures to protect information in the state networks. Monitors external connections to other state, territorial, or federal network domains as necessary. Identifies and reports violations of system security. Review/test/update continuity of operations plans (COOPS) and Security SOP’s and actively participate in accreditation/reaccreditation processes.Serves as primary advisor for physical security of information systems and the spaces in which they are stored. Works closely as technical advisor to State Physical Security Manager for all matters related to physical security of information systems.Assures physical security of information systems is in accordance with Command Cyber Readiness Inspection (CCRI) standards and the DOD Security Technical Implementation Guide. (STIG).Evaluates the effectiveness of policies and directives used to maintain physical security of information systems and ensures correction of all state deficiencies of facilities containing applicable information systems.Schedules and conducts physical security inspections as directed by policy and regulation. Periodically reviews physical security policies and procedures. Reports findings of all inspections to Designated Approving Authority with recommended actions.Assists in inspection of information systems ensuring compliance with Ensures DOD Security Technical Implementation Guide. (STIGs) Performs other duties as assigned.

As a Network Engineer I possessed experience in LAN/WAN design and implementation. An understanding of TCP/IP and routing protocols is needed. Possesses knowledge of network operations and protocols. Attention to detail is required in managing complex changes to customer networks. Participates in designing network and security platforms, as well as provide support of the network. Other responsibilities include security audits, assessments, design, implementation and configuration. Performs network user system administration tasks to include, troubleshooting and repairing of local and wide area network hardware and software. Evaluates network and Information System/Cyber security requirements in accordance with AR 25-2, in order to provide policy, procedural and technical guidance to support the ARNORTH Cyber Security program. Conducts threat and vulnerability assessments with the network administrators to properly assess and monitor risks and determines the effective measures to minimize such risks. Performs network scans for vulnerabilities in systems configuration. As a lead staff level technical contributor, works with project managers, business analysts and contractors on security solutions to address customer's security requirements. Performs technical inspections of network hardware and encryption devices for issue or turn-in. Researches and provides information on security related solutions. Provides assistance in both software evaluations and testing of future and existing security solutions. Functions as a staff level support resource on network products and problems that are in use. Must be able to assume responsibility and work autonomously in a professional manner. Proficient with installation, configuring, and operating networks in highly complex environments with specific protocols and instruct and direct those doing these tasks as well. Considered the ARNORTH KG-250 subject matter expert. Administers and manages the IPS/IDS.
