About Joseph Benton

I am originally from rural Kentucky where I attended Murray State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education along with a master’s degree in Human Development and an area in Non-Profit Leadership. I have over 10 years of management experience, working at both non-profits and in university settings. Most recently I was working with local youth through the North Central Florida YMCA, creating new programs for at risk children as well as building out a highly accessible/affordable summer program for all students. I have served on various committees and groups within our area such as; Alachua County Child Abuse Prevention Task Force, Keep Alachua Beautiful, and BOOST (Better Out of School Time). While I now serves on the Alachua County Healthcare Safety Net Collaborative and on the board of the Rural Health partnership of North Central Florida. I have a strong enthusiasm for helping populations that are constantly overlooked and underserved, which is why I'm is so excited to be joining a great team at ACORN that shares my passion for positive change. I have had over ten years experience working with children and youth, particularly disadvantaged and at risk youth both in the school system and in the non-profit world. My skill set lies in leadership, training, program development and management, communication, and budgeting. I obtained my Master's Degree in Human Development and Leadership, with a focus in Non-Profit Leadership, from Murray State University.
