I currently work as a Senior Innovation & Research Scientist at Ordnance Survey, the UK national mapping agency, looking into new and innovative ways to capture and update geo-spatial data, primarily through the use of deep learning and change detection technology.Deep Learning is a rapidly evolving disipline and I am responsible for keeping OS at the forefront of change detection and remote sensing technologies and driving their implementation within the business. For the past 3 years, most of my research has been exploring how best we can capture and update our maps using semantic segmentation and change detection. The keynote success of this work was leading the award winning production of a landcover map for the city of Lusaka, Zambia in 2021 covering 412sqkms to meet the needs of mapping informal settlements. In terms of technical experience, I'm fluent in python, pytorch and associated data science libraries with 2 years experience in using Azure ML for training and testing deep learning models. Beyond deep learning, I have 8 years of experience in geospatial technology working with both aerial, satellite and drone imagery using industry software such as (ESRI ArcGIS Pro, FME, QGIS, PostGIS, GDAL, Geopandas etc)My overall highlight in my career was featuring on the BBC for translating national scale 3D terrain and map data into the computer game Minecraft. It awakened the wider geospatial industry into the potential of using more accessible ways of visualising dataI am always open to interesting opportunities so if the above interests you, feel free to message me!
