I am a lawyer at the law firm of Severson & Werson, P.C. in San Francisco, California. I am a CIPP/US, CIPP/E and CIPM, and an expert in federal and state privacy regulation and litigation and the author of the Rutter Group's California Practice Guide: Privacy Law (Oct. 2024), the definitive guide to privacy laws in California. I have experience counseling clients on compliance with various state and federal privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the California Financial Information Privacy Act. I also have extensive experience in representing clients in trials and other phases of litigation in California state and federal courts. I have acted as primary trial counsel in trials representing some of the largest banks in the United States. I have extensive experience preparing cases for trial, handling pre-trial motion practice (including motions in limine), selecting juries in some of the most hostile jurisdictions in California, drafting and delivering opening statements, questioning and cross-examining company witnesses, plaintiffs and expert witnesses, delivering closing arguments and engaging in motion practice during trial. In every trial I have ever conducted to verdict as first chair trial counsel, not one of my clients has ever been found liable in any amount on ANY claim. In other words, I have never lost a trial.
