Completed an 8-week virtual internship with Think Pacific, a UK social enterprise and a registered Fijian charity. During this internship, I delivered two action projects for Fijian NGOs, contributing towards helping Fijian people implement the Fiji National Development Plan (FNDP) and inspire its youth to achieve transformational change by 2037.• Action Project 1: Researched and strategized ways to access non-traditional funding, and assisted with proposal writing, for the Uto ni Yalo Trust (UNYT). Established in the Fiji Islands, the UNYT is part of a family of Voyaging Societies set up around the Pacific to advance sustainable sea transportation by reviving traditional Fijian boat building, navigation and voyaging. • Action Project 2: Wrote an advocacy and communications strategy for the launch of the Great Fiji Migratory Birds Count campaign in October 2020 by NatureFiji-MareqetiViti (NFMV), Fiji's only domestic NGO working solely for the conservation and sustainable management of Fiji's unique natural heritage. This campaign aims to engage ministries, NGOs, development partners, and donor agencies to work closely to put strategies in place that will protect Fiji's wildlife and birds, as well as increase public and community awareness on the ecological importance of Fiji's wetlands.

Took part in a competition with 255 participants to develop innovative approaches to help mitigate the global disruption caused by COVID-19. Worked in a team of 4 proposing a novel Virtual Reality (VR) application coupled with Google Cardboard to showcase theatre productions to individuals in the comfort of their own homes, potentially mitigating the devastating financial impact of COVID-19 on the theatre industry.My team and I produced a 3-minute video pitch and 850-word proforma outlining the need, impact, novelty, feasibility and deliverability of our idea, along with the technology we would require to produce our VR application.Our project was selected as one of the 10 highest ranked projects in the competition by a panel of assessors, and achieved a mark of 78%.

Conducted research investigating the impact of heterozygous GBA1 E326K mutation linked to Parkinson’s Disease (PD) on mitochondrial and lysosomal function in patient-derived skin fibroblasts.Key responsibilities:• Planned and performed experiments with minimal supervision, including: a) Immunofluorescence/Immunocytochemistry; b) Live and Fixed Cell Imaging by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM); c) Fluorometric Enzyme Activity assays; d) Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR); e) Seahorse Respirometry.• Completed data analysis using Microsoft Excel and Fiji/ImageJ to generate insights into the cellular pathology of GBA1-linked Parkinson's Disease;• Developed narratives to communicate key findings and their significance to different audiences.
