With guidance from senior bridge engineers, learns and develops design concepts using appropriate methodology conducive to economic results. Designs bridges, retaining walls and other structures reflecting sound analysis, adherence to accepted engineering practices and compliance with AASHTO specifications and Department guidelines. Learns to resolve routine engineering problems independently. Provides economical solutions to design-related field problems in a timely manner and in accordance with specifications. Evaluates site conditions, location, materials costs, highway geometrics, and construction methods in determining proper structure types and sizes. Works with contractors, fabricators, and other office and field personnel to gather and analyze data necessary to complete project and/or develop solutions to construction problems. Under direct supervision, keeps assigned project on schedule by delivering milestones and other submittals according to the baseline schedule.
