Dr. Joey Wallace graduated with a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2002 before attending the University of Michigan for his PhD studies in Biomedical Engineering. After earning his MS in 2004 and PhD in 2007, he remained at Michigan for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Chemistry with funding from an NIH F32 individual postdoctoral award. He joined the BME faculty at IUPUI in September 2010. He was promoted through the ranks to Full Professor, served as BME Department Chair from Jan 2020 through July 2024, and also served as Acting Dean of the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology during its last year of existence (July 2023-July 2024). With the dissolution of IUPUI, he became a Professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and Associate Vice President for Research Development for Indianapolis at Purdue University in July 2024. His lab utilizes multiscale approaches to investigate composition, architecture, mechanical integrity and fracture resistance at discrete length scales throughout the hierarchy of bone in the context of disease, following external mechanical stimulation or during pharmacological treatment. His work attempts to understand how biological and environmental factors influence the assembly and organization of bone with a goal to develop rational approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of defects, damage and disease in this important organ system. He is currently funded as Principal Investigator by grants from NIH, NSF, and the Department of Veterans Affairs with several other co-Investigator grants from NIH and the VA.https://engineering.purdue.edu/BBML/
