I joined SGC with no prior experience in the sports/trading card industry, apart from my childhood hobby of collecting cards. However, within six months, I earned two promotions and transitioned to the Proofing department, which plays a crucial role in the grading process.As a Proofer, we had to thoroughly understand each of the 300+ cards that came through our desks daily, including the grading process, to ensure accurate grading and verification information. Our responsibilities also included effective communication with team leaders and upper management to resolve issues and enhance workflow.The job required exceptional attention to detail, as even a single typo on the label of a $20k card was a significant mistake that our department had to identify and rectify multiple times a day. The environment was very much that of a start-up with that go get it attitude. In my time there, SGC went from an afterthought in the grading industry to arguably the number 1 grading company in the country. Despite the high stakes, I enjoyed the challenging work and took pride in upholding SGC's reputation for accuracy and excellence.
