Hello there! My name is Jose, and I'm a Machine Learning Engineer.From a very young age, I've always enjoyed problem-framing and puzzle-solving, which I believe naturally led me to the world of data. I'm particularly drawn to the challenges of end-to-end machine learning projects—covering everything from data acquisition and transformation to model training, tuning, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring. However, my expertise extends beyond machine learning; I apply strong software engineering practices, develop effective data visualizations to communicate actionable insights, and have mastery of hypothesis testing. Additionally, I build scalable data systems, leveraging advanced technologies and cloud platforms.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My journey in data began as a Data Steward at NYSERDA, where I discovered my passion for data analytics and visualization. Like many, I started with Microsoft Excel, managing regular and ad-hoc reports for a $320M loan portfolio. As my responsibilities grew, I automated these reports and incorporated QA flags, significantly improving efficiency and data quality. This experience ignited my curiosity for deeper data technologies and fostered a structured, logical approach to problem-solving in data. It also led to a lateral move to NYSDMV, where I collaborated with IBM consultants to transition from a legacy database to a cloud-based NoSQL document database. This role broadened my understanding of database storage solutions and their unique benefits and challenges.Eager to advance my skills, I enrolled in a 24-week Data Analytics and Visualization bootcamp at Columbia Engineering. This program solidified my decision to pivot fully into data science—a field that fuels my curiosity and problem-solving passion, with new challenges emerging constantly. Every week, I find myself learning something new in data or machine learning. Since completing the program, I’ve embraced consulting roles, tackling diverse projects like assessing data quality in a transactional data warehouse, reverse engineering data lineage, and advising executive informatics teams on optimizing data ingestion.Recently, I earned my master’s degree in data science, where I explored applied machine learning, hypothesis testing, and advanced programming techniques.
