I am a graduate of the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Engineering. I am currently working as a Development Engineering Technologist at Array Marketing. My job is to create engineering drawing packages for sheet metal fixtures for retail. In addition to sheet metal, I create drawings for wood and fabricated plastic fixtures. While creating the drawing packages I use value engineering to reduce the cost of the fixtures without taking away from their functionality.At the University of Guelph I majored in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Sustainable Energy Systems. Throughout my studies I have learned and participated in the analysis and design of many real world engineering systems. With a specialization in sustainable energy systems I have learned about various methods of power generation and dealt with them in a lab setting. Through the use of software such as SolidWorks, RetScreen, and MATLAB I have theoretically designed solar and wind farms, as well as residential solar systems in multiple locations. Cost analysis and feasibility studies were conducted to determine if the projects would provide a profit within it’s lifetime. For my capstone project, I worked in a team of 3 to develop an educational test module for a hydrogen fuel cell. The fuel cell used a temperature controller to change the power output and efficiency. The purpose of this project is to have a cheaper more mobile setup than current technologies that can be shown to future engineers to educate them about sustainable energy. I have significant experience with different engineering software such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD to model component parts and create engineering drawings. I also have experience with 3D printing and the use of a machine shop.
