When I was twenty two years old I decided to further my education in a way that would build off of my experience working as a turbine engine technician. With a certificate in Aviation Maintenance and a couple years of working as a technician, I decided that mechanical engineering would be something that could challenge me and also fit my skillset. Since then, I have worked at research labs, manufacturing facilities, contracting companies and I also taught ski lessons for four years at our local Mont Ripley. I have learned a lot from a community of smart, passionate and weird wonderful people since my decision to pursue an engineering degree. I feel that I am good at what I do, especially if it is something that I am passionate about. I also like learning new things and often find myself in positions at work where I am asked to investigate a new idea, method or type of software. I have a lot of experience in fabrication and also woodworking. I like making things and although I am not a fabrication specialist, I can weld and do some basic things. I also understand very well how to work with fabricators and have done this a lot through out my career. CNC is also a hobby of mine and I have owned my own CNC mill and 3D printers. I have also spent a good amount of time on CNC routers for wood products.I also like to tinker with basic control systems, typically Arduino based, but lately I have also been getting into more traditional PLC's. I have made my own Arduino based controllers to monitor pressures, drive actuators, and log data. I have even been making my own windows applications using C# to work with my control systems. I really enjoy data collection and a large part of my focus in school was data acquisition and vibration/acoustic analysis. This was in part due to my interest in biking & motocross where suspension design is such a huge part of the field.In short, I have a lot of interests and experiences that I have been able to apply to my engineering work. Whether it is design work, analysis, quality control or troubleshooting, I feel that I have some sort of relevant background that I can leverage to come up with a solution. This is why I feel that mechanical engineering is a great field to work in and I am always looking forward to the next big challenge.
