My role as a Service Associate was primarily focused on the cleaning and sanitization of areas within the hospital. I have various experiences in areas such as the Emergency Room, ICU/CCU, Medical floors, and also other areas such as staff offices and common areas. One of my primary duties was to clean patient rooms on a daily basis and their beds/temporary living spaces when they are discharged. This helps ensure patient safety on a bacterial/hygienic level to eliminate the chance of cross contamination possible when a patient is admitted into a hospital. The job was very hands on and manual labor based which is one of the many aspects I enjoyed if it. Another role of my job was patient transport during their admission process or hospital stay in the emergency room. This allowed me to interact with patients and try to provide them with a positive experience as best as I can during their hospital visit. My job relied heavily and ran properly through proper teamwork and communication skills with other staff members such as nurses, diagnostic imaging technologists, laboratory staff etc.

I was stationed (Emergency Room, Staff Entrances etc.) around the Bowmanville Hospital and asked staff, patients, and visitors a standard set of questions. The primary objective was to screen for any potential individuals who may have been exposed to Covid-19. This further built my confidence when interacting with patients as I was the first staff member they met upon entering the hospital. It also allowed me to get comfortable with dealing with conflict(s) that may have arisen when a patient, visitor, or staff member had failed screening.
