Senior Editor

London, England, Gb

I had tons of fun at PC Gamer and learned so much from the wonderful people there. At times, I was a writer, editor, designer, video personality, community manager, relationship-builder, and content planner. It was a small team, so we all chipped in wherever we were needed. It felt like a family, and I really enjoyed the trust I was given when creating content—mostly around MMOs, MOBAs, and free-to-play games. Best of all, I got to meet all sorts of great people, including many friends and freelancers (friendlancers?) that I still talk with regularly. My Titles:Editor (2010-2011)Senior Editor (2011-2012)

Mar 2010 - Jul 2012

Editor

London, England, Gb

Editor for the World of Warcraft Official Magazine was my first full-time writing gig and an absolute dream come true for a longtime Blizzard fanboy. I worked with wonderful editors, designers, and artists internally and got to team up with Blizzard to write about my all-time favorite game, World of Warcraft. This is still the most beautiful magazine I've ever seen. The art assets were super high quality, the direction was visionary, and the physical materials were out-of-this-world (not literally, although a space magazine made out of stardust does sound pretty awesome). The most valuable thing I learned here was probably how to train and coordinate a large number of freelancers to design and produce top quality content on a tight schedule. We had some long nights, but the product was worth it.

Sep 2009 - Mar 2010

Editorial Intern

London, England, Gb

I was so eager to get into the games industry that I moved up to San Francisco to work an unpaid gig for a full year. I don't regret a single second of that cash-strapped journey—even those couple of weeks when I had nothing but a sleeping bag and a computer stacked on some cardboard boxes. (Although, maybe I do sort of regret letting my boss record me dancing in that sleeping bag for his amusement... Don't search YouTube for it.)I learned more in this period of my life than any other, and I'm thankful to all of the kind and generous people that helped me grow as a person and professional.

Oct 2008 - Sep 2009

Contractor, Oracle Database Manager

Perris, California, Us

Before I entered the Promised Land that is the games industry, I paid the bills with database management.Although I ultimately chose to pursue other opportunities I was more passionate about, I'm very thankful for the technical knowledge this time brought me. This job really set the foundation for my strengths in scripting that let me create the more unique content I love most today—and I got to work from home in my pajamas, which is always a plus.

Jan 2008 - Jun 2009

Intern At District Office

Washington, Dc, Us

It was 2008. Presidential election fever was starting to build around the nation. I wanted to get a better understanding of how it all worked, so I volunteered at my local Congressman's office for a few months (48th district of California). On the surface, the tasks sound a bit mundane—answer phones, help local businesses or constituents, represent the office at events, hand out flyers—but, for me, it was extremely enlightening to get a view into how our government process works. I didn't make many lasting friends there, but the experience was very rewarding personally.
