In my role as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Arizona, my key responsibility was leading 4 classes of around 30 students per week. These classes were designed to be much smaller than the main lectures, giving students a chance to work through problems and ask questions. As an instructor, I worked hard to simplify the material and get students involved. My priority was creating an environment where each student felt valued, comfortable, and encouraged to learn. Outside of teaching, my other responsibilities included grading, answering emails, helping students outside of class, and proctoring exams.

As a Private Tutor, I worked hard to make the most of the time that I had with each person I met with. Each student was unique, so I made sure I fully understood the material we were going over and strived to be creative in the ways I relayed information. Over the year, I met with students to discuss many different subjects. The most common were College Algebra and Managerial Accounting, but I also tutored in Statistics, Tax, Marketing, Financial Accounting, and Management. I helped students prepare for exams, work through homework, and review course material they were struggling to understand. My main goal was that the students I met with would fully understand the process behind the right answer, not just memorize the number.

As a Tax Intern at Grant Thornton, I was constantly pushed to learn about tax and grow as a professional. Over the summer, I helped prepare tax provisions and returns for C Corps, S Corps, and Partnerships. While my main focus was on the federal side, I also had the chance to work with the SALT team on multiple state returns. During some weeks, I was assigned to 5 different engagements. This gave me a wide exposure to tax and challenged me to improve my time management skills. On an engagement, one of my usual responsibilities was to reconcile book income to taxable income. This task helped me develop a deep understanding of these differences. It also required that I become comfortable asking questions, since there was a lot that I did not know. Some of my other responsibilities were uploading information into tax preparation software, reviewing tax forms, and drafting State and Federal extension requests.

At CliftonLarsonAllen, I was a member of the Assurance team specializing in Construction, Manufacturing, and Distribution companies. This team performed multiple different types of client engagements, including audits, compilations, and reviews. I generally worked as a member of a 5 person team, which greatly improved teamwork skills. My typical duties in an audit were looking through cash and accounts receivable, and making client inquiries. Throughout this internship, I got the chance to take the lead on a historical tax credit compilation for a large renovation project. This gave me a chance to grow in my leadership and communication skills, especially with clients directly. As an intern, I was constantly looking for ways to grow and help wherever needed. This internship greatly improved my analysis skills, as well as my understanding of Financial Reporting requirements.

As a Student Lead, I was responsible for leading a group of dining associates, and ensuring that the needs of the three thousand students were met when dining. This role included scheduling associates, preparing food, and helping out at whichever station needed assistance.

My initial role was to be the welcoming first interaction that guests have when they arrived at the YMCA, and ensure that their needs were met at check in through the day that they left our property. Over time, my job evolved to include cashiering, where I totaled all the cash earned by throughout the property over a day, preparing deposits, and performing daily vault counts. This role improved my problem-solving skills, as sometimes amounts of cash were not correct. When errors in the count occurred, I had to find the source of the problem and enter an adjusting entry into the hospitality software that the YMCA used. The cashiering work that I performed every night affected the work of the night audit, as well as the controller the next morning. During my shifts as a cashier, I helped develop an excel spreadsheet that was used to record totals while cash was being counted, and saved every night to keep track of daily cash.

As a clubhouse supervisor, I ensured that the golf course was running as it should and that all policies were being followed. This included helping golfers book and check in for tee times, serving food and beverages, scheduling tee times and tournaments, and taking action when golfers were breaking course rules.
