My role at Xero was to build solutions that enable the company's hundreds of engineers to deploy products quickly, securely and reliably. As part of working on Xero's Platform-as-a-Service, I used tools such as Kubernetes, AWS, React and Go.

Nelson, New Zealand

Plink Software builds kaupapa Māori web and mobile applications. They build apps such as Tipu for helping students learn Te Reo Māori, as well as other solutions for their partner iwi organisations. My role was to create these solutions, building them with tools such as React, AWS, Typescript and Python. I also helped build the team by looking after a summer internship programme, helping new developers upskill and being on the tech advisory board at NMIT.

Yonder is a marketing platform that provides small teams powerful automation to boost website sales and discover rich insights. It does this by using a real-time chat interface through their customers websites, providing both automated and real-person responses. I was brought in early in Yonder's life as the company was getting going. I built a real-time chat interface for both web and mobile, as well as analytics features around that.

Pixel Fusion is a boutique web development agency. We worked with a diverse set of partners including energy sector companies, non-profits and media organisations.Working alongside a dedicated and trustworthy team, I was responsible for creating high-performance web applications using tools such as React and AWS. We used different methodologies to achieve this, such as Agile and Lean, depending on the solution. We focused on the user experiences first, and worked back to the delivery of the solution from there.

Mediaworks is a national media organization that provides TV, radio and online content. It has many household brands such as Three, Newshub, The Edge, MoreFM and many other radio stations. My role here was initially as a creative developer, working with the advertising team to create premium advertising content for Mediworks' partners. Over time, the role changed and I became a core part of the digital product team, working on a CMS migration to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) by creating each website for the new platform. I also maintained the video players on the websites and developed tools to allow content editors to more easily upload video content.

Last Minute Table was a platform for restaurants to offer bookings to people when existing bookings were canceled or no-shows. It attracted users by offering discounts at top Auckland eateries. It grew to 30 eateries and had over 1,000 users before being shut down in 2015. I started the the company along with three others as the technical founder. I oversaw the majority development of the product by an external company before taking over the day-to-day running of the platform. The website was built using Laravel and the infrastructure lived in AWS.

Wellington

KidsGoMobile was a start-up company that was part of the inaugural Lightning Lab incubator. It provided solutions for parents who's children are using mobile devices and the internet. I worked with them by maintaining their marketing website and developing their core products. This was where I was introduced to NodeJS, while also learning how a business-driven makes decisions regarding technology.
