Senior Systems Manager, Led Replacement Lamps

Nela Park, East Cleveland, Ohio

With continued growth in the LED lighting sector, I navigated safety and regulatory matters. I reported to the Global Technology Manager and supervised a team of five Safety & Regulatory and Product Line Engineers. This position was fast-paced, globally focused, and constantly reacting to change:♦ Within first week of taking on the role I managed our navigation of the CPSC recall of replacement High Intensity Discharge / Light Emitting Diode (HID/LED) lighting.♦ I created new run rules for Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) and Photometric measurements at five contract manufacturers to ensure that LED Energy Star products would not face compliance issues during yearly Department of Energy (DOE) verification testing.♦ I served as a subject matter expert for LED lamps as GE Lighting has migrated a 20-year old electronic documentation system to a new Enovia/SAP system that required formatting technical data, flow-throughs, and process mapping of LED lamps.♦ We supported six Global Product Managers and Manufacturing and Quality Engineers across Lighting and Current businesses for LED lamp systems, compatibility, reliability, and technical issues.♦ I reviewed and approved technical performance metrics of globally distributed GE Lighting LED lamps. ♦ I led a team of Systems Engineers that review safety, regulatory, and technical requirements, and consult for the legal department on product recalls or safety issues in the field. ♦ I attended ANSI, NEMA, CSA, and other regulatory associations to lobby for GE and lighting industry in creation and review of regulatory practices and industry standards.

I moved into this role and shifted my focus to the growing LED market. I supervised 6 Mechanical, Electrical & Program Lead Engineers and reported to the NA Design Manager. Our work was critical to GE’s success in LED lighting: ♦ I served as an LED design engineer, developing and testing LED lamp performance for photometrics (light, color quality, uniformity of beam), optics, thermal performance of LED’s and electronics, and manufacturability of designs and cost targets. ♦ I helped develop and patent GE’s first A19 and PAR LED consumer lamps to launch into North American market.♦ We launched 8 LED Retail PAR families with 45+ individual LED SKU's.♦ I introduced and led programs as global team leader with a China Contract Manufacturer, requiring extensive travel to China for design and manufacturing development, and product testing and launching.

Jan 2010 - Feb 2013

Lead Design/Process Engineer & Innovation Team Leader

Following my foundational roles at GE, I was elevated to this position to supervise 12 Mechanical, Electrical, Program Lead Engineers and Global Research Center (GRC) Scientists. I reported to NA Technology Manager and had oversight of many developmental initiatives:♦ We took multiple projects from innovation/concept stage through proof-of-concept, prototyping, and transfer to new product introduction.♦ I led Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) Ultra Innovation development and we patented GE’s halide dose chemistry.♦ Our cross-functional team grew from 2 to 24 members including additions to GRC, manufacturing, and HID NPI.♦ We transitioned the CMH Ultra development from Innovation to NPI T1, and the 250W CMH Super Wattmiser from Innovation to NPI T1.♦ I led team of seven engineers and served as program manager for full system development of 400W CMH induction street lighting. ♦ I managed the 2007-2008, $500K program budget amidst business circumstances that required greater productivity with fewer resources.
