Investigating the Skin Microbiome, Transcriptome and Metabolome in Atopic Dermatitis:My masters thesis project involved in-vitro microbiology work and computational analytics to investigate host-microbiome interactions in the skin in atopic dermatitis. Working remotely during the covid-19 pandemic I was responsible for organising my own bioinformatics work and writing on a daily basis, reporting progress on a fortnightly basis.Assessments took the form of a 3,000 word structured grant proposal, project presentation and 10,000 word research thesis.

Senior Manuscript assistant for a leading broad-scope open access science journal, working together with editorial colleagues and management staff to help deliver a best-in-class author service as part of a pioneering publishing model. Key responsibilities & achievements:- Daily handling of a large volume of submissions, performing quality checks to a high standard- Applying a comprehensive working knowledge of copyright law to ensure all manuscripts have correct copyright clearance- Liaising with editorial staff to resolve complex issues and queries, often related to COPE guidelines, such as ethics and digital image integrity policies- Training and guiding new team members in all aspects of the role- Acting as telephone point-of-contact for all administrative queries from authors- Personal responsibility for designing, editing and delivering training materials including training handbook documents, workshops and presentations

Glycomics Analysis of a Synthetic Glycoprotein:My work involved mass-spectrometric glycomic analysis of synthetic glycoprotein samples designed and produced at the State University of New York. The internationally collaborative project aimed to develop exciting novel analytical tools for investigation of mucinous glycoproteins and I felt privileged to be contributing to cutting-edge research. Lab techniques included a range of enzymatic & chemical digestions, chemical derivatizations and multiple purifications by reverse-phase cartridge as well as analysis of large amounts of mass-spectrometric data.
