Led product design and development for an innovative energy monitoring product. It was based on a custom-designed easy-to-install hardware sensor that measured and communicated precise energy data to cloud-based servers, where patented analysis algorithms extracted detailed information and insight. The results were presented by web sites and services in browsers and on mobile devices.Responsibilities included hiring and managing both full-time and contract engineers/leads in software, electronic design, mechanical design, manufacturing, compliance, quality and test.The product was developed in partnership with a Fortune 100 company, and resulted in two issued patents and several more still pending.

Led product design and development energy management and environmental control system. Project included an ARM-based, color touch screen platform running a modified build of the Linux operating system. System was Internet-connected over Wi-Fi allowing remote administration and control from any Internet-connected device.Project included all software (cloud-based services, Linux system software, device firmware), electronics and mechanical designs.

Led product design and development for an innovative electro-mechanical energy management system that was featured in Popular Science, HGTV, Ask this Old House and won #1 Cool product at introduction at the Pacific Coast Builders Show.Product development resulted in six issued U.S. Patents and numerous customer kudos.

Senior member and manager in the Passport team within the MSN division--a billion transaction-per-day 24x7 web service supported by many hundreds of servers. Involved in product feature introductions such as CAPTCHA on Hotmail (working with Microsoft Research), web authentication flow tokens (patented), thick client web authentication, Kerberos integration, XBox Live user management, SOAP web services security architecture and various other authentication/profile-related features.Also drove cross team process improvements such as introducing code review process, development cluster deployment scripts (for easier test-driven development) and improved change management and integration procedures resulting in a corporate Star award.Awarded two patents for work done during this time.
