Joshua Bowes is a Recognized Emerging Leader and a published geopolitical researcher and analyst with The Millennium Project's South Asia Foresight Network (SAFN) in Washington, D.C., focused on international security within South Asia and the greater Asia-Pacific region. Joshua has nearly 20 published analyses, commentaries, articles and reports online and in printed newspapers. Joshua is particularly interested in the growing presence of China in South Asia as well as the evolution of foreign policy and the proliferation of political violence across the region. Joshua is a young scholar in South Asian geopolitical research and regional affairs.Joshua also serves as a Research Member of the Extremism & Gaming Research Network (EGRN), focused on the exploitation of gaming and gaming-adjacent spaces by extremists, including the propagation of digital propaganda within video games and video game communities by extremists across the ideological spectrum, from extreme right wing terrorists (ERWT) to Islamist extremists. Joshua has a demonstrated track record of researching extremism across the ideological spectrum, including in projects aimed at exploring the extremist use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) and deepfakes. Joshua is interested in digital culture, online extremist subcultures and identity politics.Joshua is also a member of the prestigious Reactionary Politics Research Network (RPRN) at the University of Bath, researching how authoritarianism and identity politics fuel both geopolitical affairs and the proliferation of extremism.
