I have spent several years of my life as an operating engineer in Local 793 in the earthworks construction industry working for several different companies of different sizes. It was in this industry where I picked up valuable teamwork and communication skills, effective and efficient problem-solving abilities, and even a flare of creativity with the multitude of ways I could get the job done. However, the most valuable traits that I learned were an unparalleled work ethic and a relentless drive to complete whatever project that lies ahead.It was in my later years when I learned that, while I enjoyed my career at the time, there was a limit to how much I felt I could contribute as an operating engineer. I also discovered that I had other interests and abilities that were separate from those I could apply within my roles in the construction industry. After some valuable career counselling, I decided that I would enroll in York University in 2020 in the Commerce program and specialize in Finance. Although I knew it would be challenging to return to academics after many years outside of school, I knew that I had an edge over my peers derived from the discipline gained in my former industry and my drive to succeed in an interesting new career path--one more tailored to my interests and abilities.It is now 2023, and having recently graduated with my Bachelor or Commerce with a 7.24 major GPA, I am more excited than ever to begin my career in the Financial Sector.
