About Joshua Wharehinga

I'm a Generalist Governor with super diverse experience. I have deep governance experience; a lifetime as a board member, a decade in local government and currently transitioning to other national and international director roles. Over my lifetime I have been honoured to be given committee chair roles inside these appointments and leadership roles in former workplaces.I have managed many things over my life; music events, album releases, research projects, a boxing gym, the staff of four tertiary degrees. I have a history of delivering on time, on budget and to quality.I have strong relationships on the East Coast, across the breadth of Aotearoa and also overseas, especially in Asia.My education has been equally as diverse; a Psychology undergrad, a Masters thesis about Maori Fatherhood, Resource Management Accredited Hearings chair, currently completing a Post Grad Cert in Business Analytics. In most governance spaces I will have a solid general understanding of the detail which gives me the ability to synthesize across disciplines. Coupled with my strong strategic governance skills I have honed over the last 10-15 years, I will be a strong contributor at any board.I believe that I grow more doing the difficult things; the interface between governance, operations and stakeholders is tough and even more so during times of economic, operations or community crisis. Recession, change management or emergencies; that is the spot where I feel I am most useful, and also where I like to be.

To make it clear that we are all about the health and wellbeing of the people of Tairāwhiti, changes to the organisation were made on 1 September 2015.Gisborne Hospital is one of the health services provided by Hauora Tairāwhiti. In Tairāwhiti Māori on average die five years younger. This difference is unacceptable and we need to act now to change this. To improve our people’s health we are looking at how people access health services and how this can be improved. Nobody wants to come to hospital if they don’t have to. While there will always be a hospital in Gisborne, our focus is on moving towards care closer to home.
