SCA’s 2019 DC Conservation Leadership Corps Program will have a crew of members, aged 15-19, volunteering in Rock Creek Park. During their four work weekends, one per month over four months, the crew will bench cut, install stone cribbing, and fill in the tread on eroded sections of the Valley trail in order to prevent any further erosion and allow for safer passage. The rehabilitated trail will be established on the high side of the erosion and naturalized on the low side. SEED stands for Strategic [urban] Ecologies, Engineering, and Decision-making. The leader of this research group is Dr. Royce Francis. I am currently doing research in sustainable urban design with new materials such as hempcrete. I am specifically focusing on climates and regions that are fire-prone. I am developing fire models to test the environmental performance of hempcrete homes.

SCA's DDOT 2018 Rock Creek Park crew will work on a variety of trail maintenance project through out the park. Projects will likely include trail improvement, tread and drainage, and invasive plant control. The crew will be comprised of 2 crew leaders, 1 apprentice crew leader, and 11 youth members.
