Joven Jacolbia is a development worker and writer-researcher with diverse experiences in media production, organizational communication, and communication for development. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree of BA Organizational Communication from the University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila), and is now taking M Development Communication in the UP Open University.Joven is a multi-platform journalist with a twelve-year experience and a versatile skill set in research, editing, and layouting. His diverse writing experience include newswriting, in-depth research, business correspondence, grant writing, and advocacy communication. He has written for Rappler and other civil society organizations in the Philippines, Africa, and Europe. He also served as editor-in-chief for several publications and is currently working at Assortedge Media, a youth-led media organization.From his journalism stint, Joven developed a great passion for inclusivity and sustainable development. With a mission to integrate advocacy to his career, Joven's interests and volunteer work include gender rights, climate justice, public transportation, built heritage conservation, and press freedom. He served as officer in multiple advocacy organizations including Bahagsari UPM and UP One Earth. As a gender rights advocate, he has contributed towards the development and passage of the Manila Anti-Discrimination Ordinance, presented a study on UPM's gender environment, engaged various stakeholders, and established and implemented key gender initiatives such as the UPM Pride. Currently, Joven mobilizes youth, communities, and organizations for the Ilog Pasiglahin campaign where he serves as co-convenor and lead for information, education, and communication campaigns. From his rich experience from diverse advocacy organizations, he developed skills in community engagement, strategic partnerships, and public relations. In 2022, he was recognized as Outstanding Student Leader by the UP Manila College of Arts and Sciences for his "outstanding leadership performance and significant contribution to the community as a student leader." Continuing his advocacy, Joven is now writing for non-government organizations in the Philippines, Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America, helping them communicate their work and strengthen their impact.
