I live by two mottos in my approach to work:- Behind the scenes. This is where most of the action takes place, where most of the innovation, the get-your-hands-dirty work, and the relationship-building happens. "Behind the scenes" may not be glamorous, but without excellent, creative background effort, sustainable and meaningful work can't happen. - Jewish community matters. Finding entry points into Jewish community can be daunting, particularly for young people like the students I work with. Further, there's no one model for what a thriving Jewish community might look like. And yet, I find Jewish community to be deeply meaningful in a time when person-to-person connection is more important than ever. I want as many people as possible to feel included in Jewish community.Together, these mottos explain and inspire my work with and for the Jewish community. I am committed to engaging people within the Jewish community - to creating inroads for them into Jewish spaces, learning, practice, and to helping them deepen their Jewish identities. I'm at my happiest when I'm making Jewish "stuff" (programs, holidays, learning, education, outreach) happen for others. This is all deeply important - and behind the scenes - work. Behind the scenes work makes the Jewish community possible - and Jewish community matters.In practice, what does this look like? Well, on any given day, you can find me connecting with a donor to share how their gift made a difference, meeting with a student who feels some sense of guilt about their Shabbat attendance ("no guilt," I tell them!), planning an educational program with a colleague, reviewing the budget, and scooping up the dirty challah covers to take them home to be washed.
