Records Management Fellow
As an ACE fellow, I’m partnered with the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants division of the National Park Service to serve as the office’s records management assistant. STLPG administers several grant programs for historic preservation to support the mandate of the National Historic Preservation Act (1966). In this role, I perform a variety or records management, archival, and grants management duties:+ Prepares collections for transfer to the Federal Records Center (FRC) and the National Archives, including arrangement and description.+ Interfiles digital and physical records, including official grant case files, to ensure the integrity of all office records.+ Performs basic reference service for staff members, particularly for legacy grants which are not digitized.+ Maintains the office’s SharePoint site and communicates with grantees to coordinate submission of all grant-related materials for reporting and review purposes.+ Catalogs grant products submitted by State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices into the National Park Service’s Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) to increase public access. + Currently overseeing a digitization contract with an outside vendor. + Performs internal staff review of grant applications for each of the office’s competitive grant programs including: History of Equal Rights (HER), African American Civil Rights (AACR), Save America’s Treasures (SAT), Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization grants. Grant types include: history projects, bricks-and-mortar historic preservation, and grants to establish subgrant programs. + Attends regular training on records management topics (FOIA guidelines, utilizing a file plan, digitization standards, etc.), historic preservation practice and policy (specifically Section 106 of the NHPA). Trained in remediation of documents for accessibility in compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Collections Management Intern
+ Assisted with "January Clean," a monthlong collections cleaning and inventory process that included the handling of furniture, textiles, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glassware, metal goods, and books. Also helped complete condition reports for most of the rooms in the historic house. Recorded all collections inventories in PastPerfect.+ Digitized original photographs of the collection in situ (before the house was transitioned into a museum) to serve as records of the original bequest.+ Researched, accessioned, catalogued, and rehoused a backlog of approximately 30 objects.+ Helped archivist begin cataloguing process for all books in the museum, including establishing a numbering system. Also cleaned, photographed, and placed mylar between each book (~120 books) to support long-term preservation of the objects.

+ Tracked data from previous rounds of the Office of Challenge Programs’ grant program, Infrastructure and Capacity Building Challenge Grants, to inform possible changes to the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).+ Contributed to all stages of the grant cycle including: editing the NOFO, creating an FAQ document for prospective applicants, reviewing draft applications and offering feedback, identifying potential external panelists to review applications, transcribing panel discussions, contributing to staff review of panelist evaluations, and attending National Council meetings.+ Served as the intern assigned to the Held in Trust cooperative agreement with the Foundation for the Advancement in Conservation (FAIC) which is considering “the current state, future directions, challenges, opportunities, and resource needs for the conservation and preservation of cultural heritage in the U.S.” This cooperative agreement is also part of the agency-wide initiative, A More Perfect Union, which supports projects that will help Americans commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.+ Wrote more than 30 reports on active grants to aid in their administration and established a system for tracking all future grant reports.+ Created an internal resource to orient future interns to the office, including: office history, links to internal guiding documents, and previous analysis of the current grant program.
