About John Panigas
Author of "Crazy, Who Me?", "My Journey as Leader Who Overcame Depression". My personal story of leadership and depression - with a happy ending. Up to 49% of leaders today are dealing with mental illness - 30% are experiencing daily depression. Depression is the invisible disease, there is no blood test and no cure. I have struggled with depression for over 57 years - 30 years as a leader diagnosed with severe depression. For too long I settled with the stigma of weakness and shame and did little about my condition, with the exception of medication. Finally, I awoke one morning with the same feelings I had had for most of my life and decided that I had had enough! I realized then and there I had to take control of my mental health. I have been on a journey researching, interviewing, being a Guinea pig for a plethora of therapies, and experiencing a tremendous amount of introspection about my leadership and depression. My purpose is to challenge the status quo of the attitudes, causes, and effects of depression on leadership and the team. As a result, I have developed a workshop designed for leaders who are looking for assistance with respect to their personal mental health and the mental health of the team.
