I determined the tax liability on a natural gas company's $780 million gain realized on an exchange of gas pipelines and related machinery. Additionally, I researched tax court decisions and corporate law for litigation in pursuit of entities exploiting distressed asset shelters. I also drafted memoranda on procedural matters and state law for attorneys in the IRS Large Business and International Division.

The Corporate Counsel Review, with a circulation of 3,400, is published semi-annually at South Texas College of Law and is the journal of the Corporate Counsel section of the State Bar of Texas. I worked with authors to implement editorial changes and finalize their articles for printing. Additionally, I managed the editing process itself by assigning editing projects to members of the Review and discussing and analyzing their recommendations. Finally, was responsible for approving articles that had been submitted to the journal for possible publication.

The Langdell Scholar Program at STCL assists first-year and second-year students with their core required classes. Each section is assigned a Langdell Scholar, who meets with the group every two weeks to review material, pose questions, and present hypothetical fact patterns to assist the students in understanding and analyzing the concepts learned in class. I served as a Langdell Scholar for Criminal Law (fall 2011) and Federal Income Taxation (fall 2012).

I worked with the Institutional Compliance staff and attorneys to ensure compliance with the various health care laws and regulations for the nation's leading cancer care hospital. I researched and analyzed the impact of state legislation, administrative regulations, and judicial opinions on business associate agreements and also reviewed organizational policies on research misconduct and stem cell research.

I performed rule interpretations and analyzed team procedures for the coaches and compliance staff of the Rice Owls, a Division I college athletics program, to ensure compliance with NCAA rules, regulations, and bylaws. Additionally, I drafted memoranda for the coaching staff, produced a monthly newsletter for coaches and Athletic Department administration, and verified the academic eligibility of student-athletes, per NCAA standards.

For the spring 2012 semester, I served as a third-party neutral for Harris Country Justice of the Peace Dale M. Gorczynski. I engaged in and facilitated negotiations between opposing parties in small claims matters and landlord-tenant disputes and drafted settlement agreements. This was in conjunction with the Mediation Clinic program at South Texas College of Law.

I researched the effects and legality of Texas school districts' policies allowing for the on-campus ticketing of elementary, middle, and high school students via Class C misdemeanors. I also performed statistical analysis and researched litigation with respect to Texas public school financing. This was in conjunction with the Pro Bono Program at South Texas College of Law, where I earned my Pro Bono Honors certificate.

During my first professional sports internship, I drafted corporate sponsorship agreements, suite licensing contracts, and employment agreements for the Tampa Bay Lightning (National Hockey League), Tampa Bay Storm (Arena Football League), and the former St. Pete Times Forum, now the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Additionally, I assisted with case management and performed research for the organization's pending lawsuits on issues including assumption of the risk, spectator injuries, and worker's compensation. Finally, I reviewed and redlined all incoming contracts to the organization, drafted a season ticket holder policy, and created the organization's first employee handbook.

I was employed here as a server during my junior and senior years to help finance by undergraduate education. I have a very fond recollection of my two and a half years here - the work was taxing, but I had the pleasure of working with an amazing group of individuals.

I worked a second job at this upscale casual restaurant during my one year in between undergraduate and law school.

I assisted with casework, spoke with constituents, and performed various office tasks in the main district office for Congressman Michael T. McCaul.

I researched committee votes from the 105th and 106th United States Congress sessions to determine the extent of party polarization within committees.My research concluded that members vote with even more party polarization within Congressional committees than in votes on the floor, although Senate committees are less polarized than House committees.

I tutored UT undergraduates in Chemistry and Mathematics in both one-on-one and group sessions. I also created and presented exam review sessions and general workshops for mathematics students. This was a very rewarding experience that helped me refine my communication skills while helping students learn about subjects that I enjoyed teaching.
