About Jean Pierre Erasmus

For the past two and a half years I have worked as the technical specialist at a power transformer manufacturing company, where I have developed my critical thinking, customer service as well as fault and failure investigation skills. In my previous career episode, 2009 to 2014, I worked as an Electrical Engineering Technician. Where I have developed my understanding and level of expertise on substation protection and automation as well as commissioning of protection relay panels, power transformers and related secondary protection equipment i.e. VT’s, CT’s, metering and DC backup supply. I have greatly enjoyed each role within these career episodes, and I am always starved for new challenges that will provide the opportunity to further develop my professional engineering career. My personal motto has and will always be: "One can learn something about everything but, not everything about something."My transferable skills are:Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively across hierarchies in the organisation.Negotiating Skills: The ability to analyse problems from different angles, prepare properly for tough negotiations; apply active listening and persuasive skills.Progress in career: Having the understanding of what is required from me in order to align my Personal Development Plan in such a manner as to progress in my professional career and thus advance in a business stance.Relationship building skills: Effective networking with stakeholders and other professionals in the field to learn and share best practice. Willingness to learn: Always willing to learn new methods of executing my day to day work responsibilities and would never refuse on the job training nor any formal courses offered to me.
