Hey, welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m Jake, and… I don’t know how I’m supposed to define myself without limiting myself. I never really know who or what I am. I guess I’m just a sack of wet meat and bones with a bunch of electricity, chemicals, and bacteria trying to understand itself and its relation to others. To do this, I’ve decided to make films, of all things. How I ended up in this position is a long but somewhat irrelevant story. We always have the power to take charge of our own narrative and rewrite our lives, so in that sense, I continue to choose to be a filmmaker each day regardless of my options. So the question remains – why? I think audiovisual media has the capacity to change the world, for better or for worse. I was captivated by the process of creating when I was younger, but as I’ve matured I’ve considered more and more my responsibility not just as a “creator” but as a full person. The world is in a time of unprecedented change, and I can’t pretend to know all the answers about where it's going or where it ought to go, but what I do know is that the world needs radical love and empathy perhaps now more than ever. With my work, all I’m trying to do is distill beauty through people, words, and images. I find myself inspired everyday by the countless wonderful people in this world that often get overlooked in this modern sea of content. I want to cut through the noise and put eyes on the things that really matter, the things that transcend time and get at the fundamental questions we ask in life. I want to create work that’s active and rousing – things that feel alive and complex yet pure and good like the best of humanity is known to be. And above all, I wish to do all this while remaining authentic and true.Of course, this whole thing is itself heavily constructed and necessarily incomprehensive. I’ve been writing to give myself a voice as if this were a cohesive singular thought and not a carefully crafted linguistic portrait of myself. The truth is, I don’t know what to say about myself or what’s even worth sharing. I’d love for my work to do the talking on its own, but I’m still so young and don’t yet have the portfolio I hope for (though its still worth checking out). Ultimately, there’s not much to know about me. I’m from Campbell, California, I like books, food, sports, music, art, nature, and spending time with the people I love. Nothing remarkable about any of that.
