Lead a matrixed research and assay development team, supervising lab and computational staff in the design, POC and early clinical validation of a novel blood-based IVD for predicting anti-PD-L1 therapy outcomes. In addition I drove innovative cfDNA assay R&D [low pass WGS and methylation] for early cancer detection, chronic inflammatory and liver disease surveillance and risk stratification applications. Responsible for project and product strategy, budget planning, quarterly presentations to company leadership, liaising with external KOLs and academic collaborators, and mentorship/career development for direct reports and other research staff. During the first year of the COVID-19 outbreak, I leaned into Verily's strategic pivot towards franchising community testing, authoring internal testing assay strategy guidance and technical white papers, drafting and supervising test site biosafety protocols, and leading rapid technical assessments/validation of sample collection and test kits to meet scale up global supply challenges.

Developed and applied novel microfluidic devices to identify and isolate circulating tumor cells (CTCs) (Ozkumur et al. Science Translational Medicine 2013) enabling longitudinal molecular analysis of liquid biopsies; discovered and characterize their existence in glioblastoma patients (Sullivan et al. Cancer Discovery 2014); and established a CTC and ctDNA based molecular diagnostic assay, as a non-invasive approach for the early detection of acquired drug resistance in mtEGFR lung cancer (Sundaresen et al. Organized new course curriculum for the Cancer Biology graduate program and lecturer for the Hallmarks of Cancer and Cancer Stem Cells course.
