• Design, test and analytically prove the convergence of numerical methods for ordinary and partial differential equations used in a wide range of modelling applications from engineering to finance• Before identifying the most appropriate method, lots of numerical experimentation is involved and a complete error analysis is performed to convince myself and other team members that a method is worth investigating further• Automate and continuously improve the testing process by employing memory management techniques and designing the automatic generation of error reports with MATLAB and C++• My most comprehensive programming project was in the implementation of a theoretically written numerical algorithm for which an implementation had never been published before. The algorithm approximates the solution of a partial differential equation with a steep interior bend that is morphing in time. Such an equation arises in fluid dynamics modelling. It dates from the early 90s and I was the first to publish an implementation of the algorithm in 2013.
