Summary: Part-time job. Teaching courses in the institute of Business Economics at HEG Geneva, where students learn the basics of programming in the field of finance. Description: I set up several new courses, called “Financial Modeling”, “Programming in Python” and “Information Systems”, where student learn the basics of software design and programming in the field of finance. I create most of the content from scratch, including projects, exercises, slides and exams. Many students attending my courses do not necessarily have any programming knowledge: what is sometimes obvious to me might not be clear at all for my students. The challenge for me is to reconsider everything I take for granted, abstract the content as much as possible, and present the concepts in a simple and practical way to students. Helping people to learn something new is to me a wonderful experience. In addition of showing me an enthralling aspect of education, setting up this course has sharpened my teaching know-how as well as my presentation and communication skills.

Designing API for collecting, storing, and analyzing data at scale.Description: In an Agile organization, a Chapter is a formal community of experts around a specific domain, led by a Chapter Lead. As a Chapter Lead, I have several roles and responsibilities: I am a servant leader and act as a line manager for my community, I am responsible for coaching and developing people, I am a tech lead in the field of data engineering, while remaining part and a practitioner of a Dev team.My daily job is to enrich and improve a relational data warehouse on Oracle and Snowflake, containing financial data, such as transactions and holdings, used for both reporting and analysis purposes. In addition, I support several business lines in their end-user computing and analytics tasks by offering training and support in Python, Excel/VBA and Tableau Software. I manage a whole community, called a guild, about Python’s technologies and best practices. Finally, I am also involved in the design and development of API to collect and clean data from various sources, store this data into large MongoDB collections, as well as retrieve, process, analyze and visualize this data at scale.

Designing new and maintaining existing analysis and reporting applications based on both highly-structured data warehouses or large amounts of unstructured data.Description: I completely redesign a reporting application that manages the delivery of asset management reports, including improvement of the entire data warehouse structure for better maintenance and efficiency, as well as the general evolution of the Reporting application at all levels. Summary: Researcher in the EDIC Fellowship Program within the field of database systems and data analysis. Work on two projects: 1) ViDa: Design and implementation of a system architecture to compile and execute just-in-time queries in parallel. 2) DaSci: Development of Web application for large data analysis and visualization. 1. Project at DIAS: “Parallel Query Processing for ViDa”Description: I extend the query processing engine of ViDa, a novel data management system offering just-in-time data virtualization capabilities over raw data sources that are treated as first-class citizen. The ViDa system already offered optimized query processing capabilities by using the LLVM compiler to translate incoming queries into efficient machine code, but did not support parallel query processing yet. Therefore, I used state-of-the-art parallelization techniques to design a software architecture that allows operators of the query plan to be executed in parallel and queries to be distributed across different portions of the data. Project at LSIR: “DaSci: Large Scale Textual Data Visualization”Description: The goal of this project was to build a software to help people work with data, so that they could get faster and better insights about their assets. After determining potential bottlenecks of existing software products, I developed DaSci, a software that empowers data scientists with the ability to explore, transform and visualize large amount of unstructured data. This tool provided data storage, machine learning capabilities, and an intuitive processing and visualization environment, while leveraging modern Big Data frameworks, such as Spark, to process and analyze large amounts of textual data. Summary: Business Analyst in Avaloq Core Banking System. Currently working for Pictet private bank in the field of Custody and Reconciliation.Description: I worked as a consultant at Beon AG (now called Unafortis AG) based in Zug. Creativity and rigor were required, since I was involved in the design and development of new components of a large banking system. Besides accommodating to a more systematic way of working, I had to cope with a new business model, namely banking, and its underlying concepts in which I had no previous knowledge. The challenge was then to quickly adapt to this new application domain while offering quality of services that everyone expects from a technical business analyst.In the framework of this full-time job, I had the opportunity to meet end-users and provide support and new features for them. Understanding their needs, solving their problems, and providing high-quality solutions were both captivating and truly motivating for me.In addition to business aspects, I gained a practical experience in software project management that followed the standard Waterfall development process: requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance.
