The goal is to excel in this knowledge area by conducting internal research projects, participating in (European) projects and cooperating with major research institutes and universities.Examples of current projects are related to the verification and validation of CFD tools within the Damen Group, research on air lubrication and more in depth research on the assessment of towing performance of tugs. Advising the Product Group Tugs within Damen Shipyards and Managing long term Research and Development projects.Part of the function as a project manager is to lead the team of Development Engineers. Currently the team consists of 5 Engineers.

Duties are to give advice on the technical performance of products to the Product Groups within Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. These advises are related to a wide range of knowledge areas as; hydrodynamics, structural, noise and vibrations. As a project engineer tasks were to supervise manoeuvring experiments on model scale and to develop and maintain the software used as an analysis tool. Furthermore conducting simulation studies and validating the simulation software and assisting in fundamental research for manoeuvring of ships were involved.
