I managed the team responsible for administering, enforcing and developing the council's statutory licensing functions relating to alcohol, taxis, gambling, charity collections and street trading. I advised potential applicants, local residents and elected councillors about licensing applications and procedures; developed relevant policies about those; lead on specific portfolio areas and licensing appeals; and ensured over 1000 businesses complied with conditions and requirements.I was a member of the Environmental Health department management team and sat on its safety committee. I was part of the local Community Safety Partnership, and chaired the Watford and Three Rivers Multi-Agency Safety Advisory Group that advised event organisers on a wide variety of arts, sport and music events.I was a website author and the administrator for the licensing system database. With a wider perspective, I chair the Local Government Association's licensing policy forum of regional representatives helping to form national policy and influence national legislation; I also chaired the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Taxi Licensing Officers Group for many years.
