Changes and innovations in scholarly communication and institutional publishing like the movement towards open access publishing are omnipresent. My specialization lies in understanding and facilitating these transitions to open access for scholarly output. The transition to open access within the social sciences and humanities (SSH) is an area that holds a special interest for me.Over the past 17 years, my career has revolved around open scholarly publishing. I initially worked at Amsterdam University Press and later joined other (institutional) publishing entities. Throughout this period, I played a crucial role in supporting and adapting these organizations to effectively address the various challenges arising in the field of open scholarly publishing. Since 2015, I served as an open access publishing consultant for the academic community at Utrecht University, where I continued to contribute to the advancement of open access and open science initiatives in the universities’ Open Science Programme from 2019 onwards. As of April 1st 2023, I have been appointed as Programme Leader Open Scholarly Communication at Open Science NL, a 10-year national programme to stimulate and foster open science practices for the Dutch research communities. Open Science NL is embedded in the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
