J. Steven Layton | Brief BioI am Steve Layton, a dedicated Minister and Disciple Maker with a passion for loving and serving others well. Throughout my career I have held leadership positions in organizations ranging from small community to multi-site mega churches and successful businesses.My life calling is to “Equip and Encourage People on their journey toward Christ-likeness”. Scriptures that guide my life and ministry include Matthew 22:37-39 (The Great Commandment), Matthew 28:18-20 (The Great Commission), and Ephesians 4:11-13 (Equip the Saints and Build up the Body of Christ).Over these past 37 years, I have served six congregations and churches across Alabama as a LifeWay Church Consultant. I currently serve as a State Missionary | Lead Strategist for Groups with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. I also teach at the NOBTS Extension Center and have taught at Jefferson State Community College.I am a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and hold two degrees from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry with a concentration in Leadership and Administration.I am passionate about making disciples that make disciples and serving local churches, associations, state conventions, and educational institutions. I love Sunday School, Small Groups, and personal Disciple Making.My wife Melinda and I both had our lives changed drastically when each of us lost our first spouses to cancer. My first wife Lois died of breast cancer and Melinda’s first husband, Dr. Steve Davis, died of Leukemia. Melinda and I married in March 1998 and blended our families together. We have five adult children...Kristen Layton Patton (Reid), Meaghan Davis Kincade (Brent), Matthew Layton, Michael Layton, and John Davis (Megan). We have also been tremendously blessed with five grandchildren Ceile Ruth, Hannah Jo, Caleb, Wendell, and Ben. We live in Alabaster, Alabama.My interests include spending time with Melinda and the grandchildren and grilling for family gatherings. I play bass guitar, am a marine aquarium hobbyist, a sports and live music fan, and a bad golfer. I am passionate about equipping and encouraging church leadership, ministry residents, interns, and students.Blessings and much joy for the journey! Steve
