The Stephen & Laurel Brown Foundation—based in the heart of the University of Wisconsin (Madison) campus—provides multi-experiential space and programming expertise, where people, faith, values, ideas, and the arts come together in a dynamic environment that fosters vocational, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural formation. In carrying out its mission, the Foundation works in partnership with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, student-based ministries, and churches, along with University departments, centers, and institutes. In addition to its Upper House facility, the Foundation also serves the larger Madison community by offering its retreat center—Dottie’s Ranch—located 15 miles from campus.In my role as executive director, I provide vision and leadership for the Foundation’s overall strategic, operational, and programmatic initiatives. Other responsibilities include the following: (1) Develop and implement a long-range strategic plan and institute metrics to measure progress against the Foundation end goals; (2) Oversee all University and community stakeholder relationships, including the development of a vibrant board; (3) Provide fiscal leadership for all operational and programmatic indicatives and oversee all real estate assets of the Foundation; (4) Maintain and strengthen public trust and extend the Foundation’s footprint of influence regionally, nationally, and around the world; (5) Pursue advancement strategies that expand the capital resources of the Foundation in achieving its end goals; (6) Serve as the chief people officer, ensuring that the staff team is well cared for, coached, united in vision, and held accountable to high standards of excellence; and (7) Provide theological direction to ensure that the Foundation honors its historic Christian tradition and doctrinal commitments.

The Center for Integrity in Business serves as a research, outreach, and advocacy unit within the School of Business, Government, and Economics that draws on theological and management scholarship and practices to empower businesspeople to lead with integrity and to shape a more just and flourishing world.Responsibilities include the following: (1) Promoted overarching mission of the Center that understands the purpose of business as service to society; (2) Drew on theological and management scholarship and practice, create tools, resources, and networks to empower men and women in business to lead with integrity and to shape a more just and sustainable world, (3) Coordinated research into alternate models of ethical and theologically-grounded business practices; engage with the business, non-profit and academic communities in shared work around these models and other aspects of values-driven business leadership; and (4) Provided strategic and operational leadership to the Center in areas of research, communication, program development, staffing, advancement, and practical application with partnering business and scholarly communities.

Inter-denominational Christian ministry serving 37,000 students and faculty on nearly 700 university/college campuses nationwide.Responsibilities included the following: (1) Led national ministry to graduate professional-schools students and faculty in business; law; healthcare; religious & theological studies; education; government & public policy; social work; journalism; and the arts; (2) Developed Professional Schools Ministries leadership team, including setting vision and strategy; implementing operational plans; raising capital; hiring, training, and coaching staff; and negotiating and strengthening all external ministry partnerships; (3) Planned and oversaw cross-cultural consulting/service projects for professional-schools students and faculty, including projects in Southeast Asia and the Central African Republic; (4) Co-directed 1,200-person Open for Business Conference, a first-time event catalyzing the emerging business-as-mission movement, at 20,000-delegate Urbana 2006 Missions Convention (St. Louis, Missouri); and (5) Served as Associate Director for InterVarsity's Following Christ 2008 Conference.

Global consulting firm that assists clients on people, cultural, and organizational issues.Responsibilities included the following: (1) Developed customized performance management and reward systems; (2) Designed behavioral competency models for selection, performance management, development, and succession planning purposes; (3) Assisted with organizational effectiveness, role clarity, and work design projects; and (4) Served various industries, including technology, financial services, retail, chemicals, automotive, and not-for-profit.

Responsibilities included the following: (1) Oversaw a real estate loan portfolio and originated new loans; (2) Managed a multimillion dollar portfolio of substandard commercial loans with AMRESCO Corporation, a NationsBank subsidiary; (3) Negotiated and implemented debt restructuring programs; and (4) Graduated from credit training and relationship management development program
