Texas Charity Advocates (TCA) was founded in 2005. Our mission is to grow and support charitable bingo in Texas for the benefit of our charity members.TCA has more than 450 members - almost 90 percent of them are non-profits that conduct bingo games to generate revenue. Veterans groups, firefighter and police associations, animal rescue centers, advocates and caretakers of the mentally challenged, disabled and the environment - in all more 1000 Texas charities rely on bingo as a revenue source to pay for the good works they do in their community.TCA is their voice at the legislature and with the industry regulator, The Texas Lottery Commission. And, we work hard to provide marketing tools and resources that help our members grow their bingo business. In short, TCA is the statewide leader in growing, promoting and protecting the game for our members and the people and customers they serve.

Strategic communications and public affairs counsel to corporate clients in the electric power (including regulated and competitive power markets), renewable energy, health care, IT services, heavy equipment sales, agricultural processing industries as well as trade associations.Highlights included:- helped pioneer and build a communications and marketing outsourcing practice, which led a leading IT services firm to outsource its marketing and communications functions to the firm and served as the company's director of communications;- served as director of communications/public affairs for a client faced with local, state and federal environmental issues, class action litigation and intense local media scrutiny in Central Florida;- led a cross-functional team tasked with developing the public affairs and communications strategy of a major national energy company just after it was taken private in the largest LBO in history;- served as the interim director of communications for the retail electric power business unit of that same energy company and provided state legislative communications strategy and support for the enterprise;- helped a large regional transmission organization manage the public affairs and communications in a four state area related to a major national electric company joining the organization's power market;- conducted communications and public affairs functional audits to help clients determine the best approach for staffing, managing and using these disciplines as part of their business;- led or helped to support client teams that generated an estimated $18-20 million in revenue for the firm over a 12- year period.

I began my career with the company providing strategic communications and public affairs counsel to the leadership of Entergy Texas.My initial focus was regulatory and legislative issues - most prominent among them being the transition from a traditional and highly regulated market to a competitive one. I served the business unit CEO along with the government and regulatory affairs teams. Ultimately, I was tasked with managing all the public and internal communications for their Southeast Texas service territory.Later, I served in a similar role for Entergy Power Marketing and Development. With worldwide operations at the time, I supported teams in the U.S., Europe, South America and East Asia.Highlights include managing communications and/or public affairs related to:- announcing Entergy Texas' transition to competition plan with regulatory authorities;- a deliberative poll related to power resource adequacy;- storm recovery response, including a CEO tour of the service territory focused on listening and learning from customers what they expect from their electric utility provider;- the departure and announcements of new CEO's at both business units;- an announcement to rehire previously laid off linemen and servicemen in the Texas service territory;- managing communications for a rate increase request that won editorial support from three of five daily newspapers in the service area; - announcing a joint venture with Koch Industries.

Directed and managed scheduling staff during the early primary schedule for Gov. Richards' historic primary battle against the late Jim Mattox and former Gov. Mark White in 1990. Provided the advance and coordination for the unique boat "whistle stop" tour of the Texas Gulf Coast generating significant earned media focused on economic and environmental issues.

Served on the Senator's personal staff in Washington and Austin providing research, constituent and issues support. Also, worked on the Senator's 1988 reelection campaign acting as travel aide to Lloyd Bentsen III and Lan Bentsen. In addition, I coordinated campaign activities in the congressional district of Senator Bentsen's general election opponent.

Responsible for annual fundraising campaign targeting alumni, parents, community (including corporate donors). Raised more than $1 million in annual unrestricted/restricted for the first time in college history.

Organized and managed foreign exchange tours of the U.S. for delegations of young public/political leaders. Delegations included representatives from the then Soviet Union, India, Australia, and Costa Rica. Also participated as support staff for a U.S. delegation to Denmark and France. Provided support for fundraising activities, grant applications and redevelopment of the organizations brand and collateral material.
