Working within a team to design and develop eLearning solutions to support the global workforce.

Working in a small learning and development team, I design elearning experiences across the business and also for external clients. I have recently worked on a large project for the Fire Service College (within a team), and have also created smaller internal products (working on my own). I frequently liaise with subject area experts during a project's life cycle.

In this role, I designed and developed elearning products and also advised on the most appropriate use of technology for delivering learning. I managed a Moodle-based project from conception through to implementation. Working closely with subject-area experts, this project required me to take on the roles of course designer, content designer/developer as well as Moodle administrator where I have been responsible for building the project from scratch. The project consists of 8 courses where learning is delivered through a range of media resources including video, photography, flash interaction, and PDF documents; all facilitated through forum-based collaboration and guidance practices.In a recent project, which won a BMJ national award for excellence in healthcare education, I helped to identify and target training requirements within acute kidney injury (AKI). Working within a team of consultant nephrologists, the project started with capturing data using the TurningPoint voting system from 300+ junior doctors, followed by a flash-based learning intervention in response to the results. I was responsible for developing the eLearning and also for technical support. This area has now seen an improvement in the identification and treatment of AKI; improving patient care, freeing up beds, and saving money.

Working within a team of designers and developers I created eLearning training content for staff and patients. I was directly involved with the planning, designing, developing, and implementation of content and assessments (usually in Flash) as well as producing videos, photographs, and websites. I used a custom-built LMS, but also gained experience with Adobe Connect. I communicated on many levels in this role, specifically with subject area experts, voice artists, colleagues, managers, directors, doctors, professors, and patients. I also designed & introduced a range of new assessment methods.

It was probably around 1980 that I got my Kodak Brownie Starmite and started capturing family memories. I enjoy studying photographic books with interesting narrative, reading theory, and have undertaken academic study.
