Hon. David H. Brickner (Ret.), a veteran of more than 500 successful mediations and arbitrations and highly regarded for his intellect, innovation, and decisiveness, joined JAMS following 31 years of distinguished service with the Orange County, California courts and as a trial attorney in private practice. He is accomplished at streamlining the case management process and focusing on the important issues in a case. Having presided over hundreds of civil trials at the Orange County Superior Court, Judge Brickner has managed, tried, settled, mediated, or arbitrated (including tripartite arbitrations) widely varied litigation on a broad range of issues. Judge Brickner authored "Brickner's Bits," a column in the "Dicta" section of the Daily Journal offering tips from the bench to trial lawyers; the trial tips were also published in "Trial Excellence," a trial lawyer's newsletter, and have been widely circulated to various law firms and other legal organizations. He is also a frequent lecturer on panels and discussion groups before attorneys and fellow judges, and has served as an Adjunct Professor (Contracts, Evidence, Trial Practice, Legal Writing and Analysis) at Western State University College of Law, Fullerton, California.
