About Judith Klein
I am a human rights lawyer who founded and directed the Mental Health Initiative at the Open Society Foundations from 1995-2019. The work focused on ending the unjustified, inappropriate institutionalization of people with intellectual and/or psychosocial disabilities by supporting the development of community-based alternatives, promoting self-advocacy, and working with governments on deinstitutionalization. For the past 25 years, together with local partners, I pioneered the growth, replication, and sustainability of community-based supports and services like housing, employment support, and respite care that allow people to live dignified lives as equal citizens in their local communities. I'm now leading an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit. The organization, INclude-The Mental Health Initiative, builds on my previous work and operates a technologically-enhanced mental health care “GPS road map” service that helps people identify options for moving forward when mental health concerns arise, and they are not sure what to do. The GPS service has been piloted in North Carolina and is available to anyone who needs it. INclude’s GPS connects consumers with help by combining a toll-free call center staffed with navigators and a database of support and services.
Listed skills include Grants, Program Management, Program Evaluation, Nonprofits, and 18 others.
