Dr. Van Ginkel has a distinguished career as a champion for women's and children's health and supporting program initiatives with sound research. After retiring from her career in nonprofit leadership, she has been at work on new book, Chasing Success: The Challenge for Nonprofits, which is due out in October 2023.She retired in February of 2021 as a professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and as President of Every Child Succeeds (ECS), a program she founded in 1998. ECS is a $9 million home visiting organization for at risk moms and their babies. Based on knowledge that early brain stimulation is critical for a child's long term development, this regional prevention program has provided the opportunity for 58,000 mothers and their babies to receive over 700,000 professional home visits and achieved remarkable positive outcomes. This work highlights the exuberant brain growth that occurs during the first 1000 days of life and the importance of social connections.An innovative community nonprofit strategist and leader, Van Ginkel has been instrumental in establishing public policy for social service and health care issues. Examples include: funding a biomedical incubator, raising $410 million through three successful tax levies, turning around a fading Cincinnati institution for long term care, and raising over $100 million for ECS. Van Ginkel has led many nonprofit boards ranging from Classical Public Radio to the Hoxworth Blood Center and the over 100 year old Cincinnatus Association, and has served on the Boards and a volunteer for many more.
