Judy Powell has a Master's Degree in Studies in Human Behavior, a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and is a licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in the State of Minnesota. Judy has worked to assist those with substance use disorders and mental health issues, receive the best care possible through evidence-based services. After 31 years of experience, Judy made a decision to branch out on her new venture of private practice. Throughout her career, Judy has had a variety of professional roles from Counselor to Program Director providing services to people with addiction in different treatment settings. She has developed innovative programs for women with addiction and mental health issues. Additionally, Judy has a special interest in providing a safe, supportive environment where people with addiction and trauma histories can begin their healing journeys.Judy became aware of the critical role grief plays in the development and continuation in addiction early in her own personal recovery.  She made it her mission throughout her career to include and embrace grief in the treatment process.  Trauma and grief are central to the development of addictions and we can't afford to say this isn't in our scope of practice.  It is, because our clients bring the these issues with them; trauma and grief is the foundation addiction is built on.Her mission is to provide a "holding place" where individuals can heal body, mind and spirit in a trauma, gender and culturally responsive environment. To offer refuge, with awareness of how generational trauma, neuroscience and spirituality intersect with cultural issues, all of which contribute to human suffering.  She attempts to be ever mindful and sensitive to diverse cultural richness, knowing that all individual possess resilience and resources to aid in their own healing. Her vision is to provide a menu of services that is  strength based, trauma and grief informed,  immersed in mindfulness with a sprinkling of 12 step philosophy. Always aware that the client possesses the wisdom to heal, while walking beside them.
