[Note: The Victoria Street precinct delineates Richmond (south) and Abbotsford (north).]Victoria Street Alive! was established by Residents for Victoria Street Drug Solutions Inc in 2018 as part of its campaign for a medically supervised injecting health facility in North Richmond. Victoria Street Alive! focus is on improving community safety and amenity through the renewal in the Abbotsford/Richmond precinct through artistic and cultural installations with a focus on Victoria Street. The project engages the whole community, especially the "voiceless": residents from the local housing estate, youth, local creatives, vulnerable community members experiencing mental health and addiction.Underpinning the Victoria Street Alive! projects are evidence-based solutions drawn from models such as Renew Newcastle (Australia) and Projects for Public Spaces (USA). Victoria Street Alive! is building partnerships - financial and in-kind - with local business, health/ethical property/philanthropic organisations, and is key to our long-term success. In 2021/2022, Victoria Street Alive! held extensive community engagement sessions, resulting in the completion of the following exciting, community projects: - a photographic exhibition of "local, unsung heroes";- an artistic installation on an unloved wall;- two outdoor markets featuring the creativity of local artisans;- a street-posters project, led by design expert Gustavo Morales from RMIT, engaging local primary and secondary school students on the local housing estate, whose posters were installed along Victoria Street throughout June; - a month-long exhibition, featuring works created by artists who attend the medically supervised injecting health centre and staffed by volunteers, in two vacant shop spaces in the local shopping centre.The community response to the Victoria Street Alive! projects has been very positive, resulting in some of these projects returning in 2023.

After moving to Abbotsford in 2012, I was shocked by the enormity of the drug addiction health crisis in my neighbourhood. Human beings were slumped in our streets, laneways, and carports. The sound of emergency sirens was constant, stressful, and exhausting. Access to our homes could be blocked for hours at a time as paramedics revived people. Something had to be done - but what? And who was going to do it?I stood as an independent candidate at the local government elections in October 2016 with a single issue: "demanding a trial of a medically supervised injecting centre (MSIC) in drug-ravaged Richmond/Abbotsford". It was a market research exercise. I wanted to determine the extent of community support for a much-needed but hugely controversial health facility. The voter support for my issue was so overwhelming that I nearly won a seat on council which was not my intention.With a mandate for action from the community, I established and led the Residents for Victoria Street Drug Solutions (RVSDS) to lobby the Victorian Labor Government to establish a trial MSIC in our neighbourhood as a matter of urgency in the wake of 34 fatal overdoses in our area in 2016. Key strategic actions included:- hosting monthly community-education forums educating fellow residents about an MSIC- recruiting hundreds of volunteers - commissioning street art “You Talk We Die” to tell our story- coordinating the game-changing "March to Save Lives" rally in August 2017. The RVSDS' efforts were successful, resulting in the passing of the MSIC Act in December 2017. The MSIR opened on 30 June 2018. Eight weeks after the trial commenced, there had been 8000 supervised injections and 140 revived overdoses in the centre. Five years later - after providing our marginalised, stigmatised community members suffering addiction with life-saving harm reduction measures - Premier Daniel Andrews announced in March 2023 that the MSIR would become a permanent health facility.

The emphasis was on retention - and happiness - of those new residents in the region.

Coordinated the marketing of the new NSW Police recruit training program - the Diploma of Policing Practice - in conjunction with NSW Police Marketing and Recruitment Branches. The course was a recommendation from the Wood Royal Commission in to police corruption in 1997. Also coordinated Albury campus graduation ceremonies.
