I thought my dream was to be a patent agent, framing stories about how life could be transformed through new products or processes. But with the 2+ years of waiting to receive a patent approval, I felt far away from producing any real change for the company, for my colleagues. I needed more immediacy, more frequent collaboration, more hands-on exploration of technology, more. Cut to taking on a proofreader role in marketing. There were daily deadlines, ongoing conversations as projects evolved, and the need to learn trendy software constantly. Ostensibly, I was nitpicking at details to maintain quality control, yet I became engrossed with analyzing everything, knowing this contributed to crystallizing the message that was being woven throughout each piece. I was instantly enamored by content creation and narrative building. As a recent CS grad, I want to use data and technology to deepen perspectives and inspire action, curating statistics, visuals, and words intentionally to build a convincing narrative. I support causes that allow for a wide range of stories to be told, motivating my recent forays into nonprofit work such as theater fundraising, performing arts, and Orange County welfare initiatives.
